>YTL Cement’s CDL Academy and IEM Forge Strategic Partnership to Advance Malaysia’s Engineering Talent
15 June 2026
MoU to Strengthen Technical Skills and Create Pathways for Professional Engineer (PE) Certification

KUALA LUMPUR, 15 June 2026 – The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with YTL Cement, formalised through its learning and development arm, CDL Academy, to establish a structured framework for continuous upskilling and professional development within Malaysia’s engineering community.
The three-year MoU was signed by Ir. Yau Chau Fong, President of IEM, and Dato’ Sr. Mohd Zaid Zakaria, Chairman of CDL Academy. The collaboration will advance technical excellence and professional development through joint technical seminars, workshops, industry dialogues and professional development programmes to help engineers strengthen their competencies and keep pace with evolving industry practices.

As part of this collaboration, CDL Academy and IEM will jointly organise the inaugural IEM–YTL Cement Technical Symposium at IEM’s Annual Engineering Exhibition & Conference (ENGINEER) in September 2026. Titled “Future-Ready Green Data Centres: Sustainable and High Productivity Engineering,” the symposium will explore developments in Civil & Structural (C&S) engineering and the application of sustainable materials in data centre construction.
The partnership will also complement IEM's Route to MIEM/PE development programme by incorporating an industry dimension. Through the "Route to MIEM/PE" programme, CDL Academy will provide graduate engineers with opportunities for real-world industry exposure through mentorship and practical learning experiences, while also supporting engineers within the Group in their journey towards obtaining Corporate Membership (MIEM) and thereafter PE registration from the Board of Engineers, Malaysia (BEM).
Since its inception in 2019, CDL Academy has empowered more than 10,000 participants through over 100 learning initiatives, reflecting YTL Cement’s continued commitment to developing a resilient, innovative and future-ready engineering workforce.
