>Pahang Cement Receives License Renewals During DOE Seminar
29 May 2025
YTL Cement Group continues to demonstrate its long-standing commitment to sustainable waste management with the renewal of Pahang Cement’s co-processing and scheduled waste (SW) transportation licences by the Department of Environment (DOE). These annual licences enable the continued responsible handling, transportation, and use of scheduled waste materials in compliance with the Environmental Quality (Scheduled Wastes) Regulations 2005. While the renewal is a routine part of the facility’s operations, it reflects YTL Cement’s consistency in meeting environmental standards and regulatory compliance over the years.
Strengthening Industry Connections Through Shared Learning
The licence handover took place alongside the Maximising Scheduled Waste Management for Environmental Sustainability 2025 seminar organised by Kelab Sukan DOE. The event was attended by representatives from DOE, industry players, and service providers from across Pahang. Among the guests were Tuan Wandi Yadzid bin Hj Yaakob (Director of DOE Pahang), Puan Siti Noriah Binti Abu Bakar (Head of Branch, DOE Temerloh), Puan Syazwani Che Mohamed (Assistant Director, DOE Putrajaya), and Ir. Mohd Nazir Mansor (Deputy Director, DOE Negeri Sembilan).
During the session, Low Seow Ping, General Manager of Geo Alam, presented the advantages of co-processing as a cleaner, more sustainable alternative to traditional disposal methods. By using qualified waste as alternative fuel and raw material in cement production, co-processing reduces the reliance on natural resources and eliminates residual waste.
Significance of Co-Processing
For the cement industry, co-processing supports resource conservation. For waste generators and contractors, it offers a practical way to divert waste from landfills. On a national level, it contributes to reducing landfill dependency, lowering long-term environmental risk, and creating higher-value jobs.
This approach strengthens circular economy practices and aligns with Malaysia’s broader sustainability goals.
Congratulations to the team at Pahang Cement for their continued dedication to environmental excellence.
