Langkawi Plant Brings Together Community for Environmental Initiatives

Langkawi Plant team hosted an environmental programme at its premise in Langkawi, as part of YTL Group’s Beyond 70 initiatives, commemorating the Group’s 70th anniversary.

Dato’ Halimah Hassan, Director of YTL Cement Group, was present to mark the occasion, which brought together 193 participants including representatives from government agencies, local stakeholders, employees, and contractors. Among those in attendance were Jabatan Alam Sekitar Kedah, Pejabat Perhutanan Daerah Langkawi, Penang Port Commission (PPC), and local institutions such as Masjid Nurussalam Ewa and Penghulu Ayer Hangat. Teachers from Sekolah Kebangsaan Ewa and Sekolah Kebangsaan Penghulu Ahmad also participated, adding an educational and community-driven dimension to the celebration.

The event featured a series of impactful sustainability initiatives, including the planting of the 700th tree and the launch of the No Single-Use Plastic campaign at the plant level. It also saw the release of 700 fish into the quarry pond to promote aquatic biodiversity.

Over 100 BUILDS volunteers from the Langkawi Plant took part in the tree-planting activity, contributing a combined 218 volunteer hours towards the initiative. Their active participation demonstrated the company’s strong culture of teamwork and commitment to protecting the environment.
