>Geo Alam Signs MoU with SIEE and CBMI to Tackle Waste and Boost Sustainability in Malaysia
4 August 2025
Collaboration aims to offer an alternative to landfills and option for fuel sources for industry players
KUALA LUMPUR, 4 AUGUST 2025 – Geo Alam Environmental Sdn Bhd (Geo Alam), one of Malaysia’s leading environmental services providers and a subsidiary of YTL Cement Group, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sinoma International Environment Engineering Co., Ltd (SIEE) and CBMI Construction Co., Ltd (CBMI) to introduce advanced waste management solutions in Malaysia. The strategic collaboration seeks to reduce the country’s reliance on landfills and support decarbonisation efforts by converting waste into alternative fuels for industrial use.
The partnership brings together complementary strengths: Geo Alam contributes strong local capabilities and regulatory expertise, while SIEE and CBMI offer over six decades of experience in environmental and cement-related technologies. Collectively, the partners have managed more than 10 million tons of municipal solid waste, commercial and industrial wastes, and hazardous materials across large-scale projects worldwide — underscoring a deep operational track record that goes beyond technological solutions.
Under the MoU, the parties will jointly develop, invest in, and operate integrated waste management facilities across Malaysia. These facilities will process a wide range of waste streams, including municipal and industrial waste, hazardous materials, construction and demolition waste. Depending on suitability, the processed output may serve as alternative fuel or as alternative raw materials for use in industries such as cement manufacturing.
By offering sustainable, locally integrated solutions, the partnership aims to support government agencies, industrial players, and third-party waste handlers in meeting environmental targets, lowering emissions, and advancing Malaysia’s circular economy agenda.
At the signing ceremony, Clarisse Loh, Director of Operations at Geo Alam, said: “Landfill growth is a pressing challenge that requires immediate and collaborative action. If not properly managed, waste poses risks to both the environment and public health. This partnership represents a meaningful step forward. By combining our local insight with SIEE and CBMI’s technical expertise, we aim to deliver practical, scalable solutions for sustainable waste management in Malaysia.”
Zhao Danhui, Vice President of SIEE, said “We are pleased to partner with Geo Alam and CBMI to support Malaysia’s transition to sustainable waste management. This collaboration reflects SIEE’s commitment to delivering proven, advanced environmental technologies that can be adapted to local needs. We look forward to contributing our technical and operational experience to help accelerate the shift toward circular and resilient industrial ecosystem.”
Ma Jingwei, Managing Director of CBMI’s Malaysia operation, added “CBMI has served the global cement industry for decades, with over 150 integrated projects in more than 35 countries. We are pleased to further that legacy in Malaysia. As an established EPC provider committed to decarbonisation through innovation, we believe this joint effort with Geo Alam and SIEE will deliver practical and future-ready waste to fuel and waste to material solutions.”
