On 15 July 2026, YTL Cement’s CDL Academy signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with University of Malaya (UM) at Wisma YTL Cement.

The partnership aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry practice by creating greater opportunities for knowledge exchange, talent development, research and innovation. It builds on a longstanding relationship between the two organisations, which has included nine Masterclass Series programmes since 2021, that connected academic expertise with practical industry insights.

Under the MoU, CDL Academy and UM will collaborate on initiatives including joint research and innovation projects, talent development programmes, seminars, workshops and conferences, as well as the exchange of academic personnel and scholarly resources. Particular focus will be given to areas of growing importance to the construction sector, including sustainable construction, green building materials and technologies, cost management, and environmentally responsible building practices.

Established in 2019 as the professional learning and development platform of the YTL Cement Group, CDL Academy serves as a bridge between industry practitioners, subject matter experts, and emerging talent.

Through its various learning engagements, CDL Academy promotes the exchange of knowledge and practical expertise across the construction and engineering ecosystem. To date, it has organised and participated in more than 100 seminars and learning programmes, benefiting over 10,000 participants, and reinforcing its commitment to developing industry-relevant capabilities and continuous professional learning.

Speaking at the ceremony, CDL Academy Chairman Dato’ Sr. Mohd Zaid Zakaria highlighted the importance of closer collaboration between academia and industry, in preparing future professionals for an increasingly complex built environment, shaped by sustainability demands, technological advancement, and evolving industry standards.

He noted that the partnership brings together UM's academic excellence and research capabilities with CDL Academy's industry experience and applied learning network.

This creates a strong foundation for developing graduates and professionals who are equipped to meet the realities and demands of the modern construction sector.

More than a formal agreement, the MoU provides a framework for both organisations to translate shared aspirations into meaningful action and long-term impact. It will support the development of industry-ready talent while advancing innovation and sustainability across the built environment.
