What is ECOSand™?
It’s our environmentally-friendly alternative to natural sand. Geological materials such as stone, sand, and gravel are used as a base in virtually all forms of construction. They are an indispensable ingredient in ready-mixed concrete, asphalt, and mortar.
Natural sand, however, is obtained through environmentally-damaging processes. For example, sand mining from rivers and marine ecosystems leads to significant environmental impacts, such as coastal and river erosion, pollution, salinisation of coastal aquifers and groundwater reserves, and threats to biodiversity By using ECOSand™, these detrimental processes can be entirely avoided.
ECOSand™ is a cubical-shaped fine aggregate manufactured by crushing hard granite using a Vertical Shaft Impactor (VSI). It is then washed and well graded, making it ideal for ready-mixed and precast concrete applications.
